Culture (Customs about punctuality)

Customs about punctuality around the world

Punctuality is not an absolute concept but, as a good social construction, it varies significantly from one country to another. In a globalized world like ours, where business trips to any corner of the planet are a constant, it is important to know what is meant by punctuality in the place where you are going.

 For example

South Korea

South Koreans place a lot of importance on punctuality, so being late is considered disrespectful.

México

Punctuality is not something that Mexicans lose sleep over: arriving an hour late for a meeting is completely normal.

China

The Chinese do not consider that you have arrived late if you are ten minutes late from the scheduled time.

Japan

Punctuality is sacred to the Japanese, to the point that if the train arrives even a minute later than scheduled, they see it as a considerable delay.

Germany

Thanks to its markedly industrial past, in Germany they expect you to arrive ten minutes before any meeting or event.

Colombia

Although punctuality is not one of the main characteristics of Colombians to highlight, you must be punctual in all your appointments and commitments. Please wait patiently for the necessary waiting time.
